Mangaluru, Jun 12: After months of speculation and backdoor efforts by a section of leaders, MCC commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati has been finally transferred, sources said, barely six months after she took charge of the office.
Though official confirmation is awaited, sources said that Korlapati has been transferred as CEO of Vijayapura zilla panchyat.
It may be recalled that several corporators of Mangaluru City Corporation had been up in arms with Korlapati, alleging that she was not working properly and giving scant respect to them. Korlapati on her part had maintained that she had been trying to put in a new efficient system in place to carry out development works but was not getting the required support in her efforts.
Korlapati had joined the city corporation as its new commissioner in place of Ajit Kumar Hegde Shanadi on January 1 this year. In respect of Shanadi too, behind-the-scene activities had tried to transfer him, whereas another group had made efforts to retain him here. Within days after Hephsiba Rani Korlapati joined the city corporation, a group of city corporators accompanied by the mayor had approached the chief minister during his visit to the city, seeking her transfer. However, the chief minister had shown disinclination to entertain their request, and had advised them to proceed with mutual cooperation.
Although the momentum of their efforts had become feeble in between, the efforts were renewed by the end of last month and her transfer had been expected in the first week of June, sources said.
Speaking to daijiworld, mayor Jacintha Alfred said, "I have no official information on this, but I too heard that the MCC commissioner has been transferred. We will know by evening."
Efforts to contact Hephsiba Korlapati failed, and sources said that she was on leave on Friday June 12.
