Los Angeles, June 11 (IANS): Sony Pictures and director Paul Feig have cast Chris Hemsworth to play a receptionist in the female-driven "Ghostbusters" reboot.
Feig made the announcement Wednesday on micro-blogging website Twitter, reports variety.com.
Hemsworth is set to join Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the movie, which hits the theatres next year.
Feig will direct the next instalment in the "Ghostbusters" franchise on a script co-written by Katie Dippold.
Story details are unknown other than the reboot centres on the next generation of Ghostbusters, who happen to be female. Ivan Reitman will produce the action comedy.
Insiders say the studio went to Hemsworth very early on in the process for one of the major male roles but the Aussie actor passed because the role was too small. Since then, Sony Pictures reworked the script so the part was beefed up.
