Bantwal, Jun 11: Bantwal police have managed to arrest a person wanted in 28 theft cases which had taken place in various places of Coastal Karnataka.
Balasubramaniyan is the person arrested. Bantwal police brought him from Tenkapadelenali chathra in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu after the arrest.
The accused is facing 7 cases in Bantwal rural police station, 5 cases in Bantwal town police station, 2 cases in Bajpe police station, 2 cases in Badiyadka police station, 1 case in Udupi police station, 3 cases in Puttur rural police station, 5 cases Vittal police station, 2 cases in Uppinangadi police station and 1 in Belthangady police station.
The accused with the help of his accomplice Murugan was engaged in several thefts in the district as well as in the neighbouring districts. They used to steal only jewellery, it is learnt.
Then circle inspector of Bantwal Nunjundegowda had arrested Balasubramaniyan in 2010. After that jewellery worth Rs 24 lacs were confiscated from him.
But the accused had managed to secure bail from the court and did not appear to the court after that. A warrant was also issued against him later.
Police personnel from Bantwal police, Lokesh and Suresh after getting information that Balasubramaniyan lived in Tamil Nadu went there in search of him and brought him after arrest.
The accused has been remanded to judicial custody after he was produced before the magistrate on June 10.
