Bengaluru, Jun 9: The seventh standard students in the state are proposed to be put through another examination. First of these proposed annual eligibility examinations will be held during the first week of January, 2016, said minister for primary and secondary education, Kimmane Ratnakar.
These eligibility examinations will be held in all the five subjects of seventh standard, with 100 marks each. The minister said that these examinations aim at assessing the learning capacity of the students, and that there will not be any results like pass and fail for the students appearing for them.
'Eligibility examinations will be held for seventh standard students from both government and private schools. The education department is already making preparations for holding this examination. Information has already been sent to teachers,' he added.
The minister reasoned that the parents fail to assess the learning capacity of their children as of now, as the students directly pass examinations from first to tenth standard. 'We therefore propose to hold this eligibility examination at the seventh standard level. In case of students who fail to clear this examination, discussions will be held with their parents, and special classes will be conducted to help the students,' he explained.
The minister noted that eligibility examinations are held in foreign countries once every two years for medical professionals and teachers. He felt that such a system, if introduced in the country, will serve the people better. He revealed that the possibility of introducing such an eligibility examination for teachers is under the government's consideration.
