Madrid, May 23 (IANS): Spanish BBVA Primera Liga club, Rayo Vallecano have reached an agreement to extend the contract of coach Paco Jemez for further seasons.
The club confirmed this on Friday evening on its official website, Xinhua reported.
It is excellent news for the Madrid based club who during the last three campaigns have maintained their place in the Spanish top-flight with few problems thanks to the positive approach from their coach, who adopts an open attacking style of football.
Jemez's commitment to all-out attack has led to his side suffering some heavy defeats such as a 6-1 thrashing in the Camp Nou earlier this season, but despite that loss Rayo were the first side to enjoy more possession of the ball than Barca in over 400 matches.
The former Cordoba boss had commented a week ago that this was almost certainly going to be his last campaign at the club and he had even been linked with a move to English sides such as Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
However, Jemez's new deal now means Rayo fans will be able to enjoy his entertaining football and strong personality for another campaign while the players will know they will not be able to relax for an instant.
Jemez gave proof of his personality on Wednesday when he halted a training session after half an hour. Although Rayo are at comfortable tenth place in the league table with nothing but pride to play for in their last game of the season, at home to Real Sociedad, Jemez stopped the session after accusing the squad of showing an "unprofessional attitude."
