Mangaluru, May 12: A rare case of coronary angioplasty was performed on a patient with dextrocardia recently at KMC Hospital, Mangaluru.
The patient is a 63-year-old man from Beltangady who came with complaints of chest pain. He was evaluated by eminent cardiologist Dr M N Bhat who found that he was having a heart attack and also that his heart was in the right side of the chest instead of the usual left side.
The patient was immediately taken for a coronary angioplasty which showed a single block in the coronary artery.
Dr M N Bhat said that it technically challenging to do coronary angioplasty and stenting as the hardware are designed for a leftsided heart. Angioplasty was done successfully through the right forearm (radial approach) and the patient is recovering.
