Berlin, April 21 (IANS): Michael Frontzeck has taken over struggling German football club Hannover until the end of the season.

A couple of hours after Tayfun Korkut's dismissal, Hannover on Monday announced that former German international Frontzeck will be at the helm until the end of the season, reports Xinhua.

"We have full confidence in Michael Frontzeck who will help us to remain our top flight status. In the remaining Bundesliga games we have just one objective and that is to stay in the first division," Hanover president Martin Kind said.

Hannover still wait for their first win in 2015 and hence sit in 15th position, just two points adrift of a relegation playoff spot. The heavy 0-4 loss to Leverkusen sealed the dismissal of head coach Torkut, who took over in December 2013. It is the ninth coach dismissal of the current Bundesliga season.

New coach Frontzeck will be officially introduced on Tuesday.

"He knows the Bundesliga and has wide experience. I am convinced that he will successfully complete the season with the team," club sporting director Dirk Dufner said.

The 51-year-old caretaker coached, besides a number of lower leagues sides, Borussia Monchengladbach from 2009 until 2011. His new club host eighth placed Hoffenheim in the 30th round of Bundesliga on Saturday.
