Mangaluru, Apr 19: Five local youths were allegedly stabbed by a group of three Syrians, two Sudanese and a Keralite late night on Saturday April 18.
Dhananjay, Charan, Avinash, Sandesh and Manoj were allegedly assaulted and stabbed by the group.
The accused, Qamaruddin, Hayal and Bilal from Syria, Jilani and Al Ameen from Sudan and Sadique from Kerala, have been arrested.
It is said that the five local youths were standing near a restaurant late night on Saturday, when the accused came in bikes and teased them by passing some comments. Angered by this, the five of them then followed them till Kodial Guttu, where a verbal clash erupted between the two groups. In the ensuing fight, Dhananjay, Charan, Avinash, Sandesh and Manoj were allegedly stabbed by the other group.
The five have been admitted to hospital. Dhananjay and Manoj are said to be serious.
Based on their complaint, the police arrested the six accused.
It is learnt the Syrians, Sudanese and the Keralite are all in their twenties and studying in various colleges in the city. The Syrians are pursuing BDS, the Sudanese BPharma and the Keralite Sadique is a BCom student, sources said.
Police sources said that there was no history of rivalry between the two groups.
It is also learnt that the accused have filed a counter case against the local youths.
Barke police have registered a case.
