Goa CM promises rehabilitation of Kannadigas

Panaji, Apr 17 (DHNS): R V Deshpande, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, said on Thursday that Goa chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar had responded positively to the appeals for suitable rehabilitation of Kannadigas at Baina beach in Goa.

The minister was speaking to reporters after an hour-long discussion on this and other issues with Parsekar, as per the directions of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Deshpande said Kannadigas residing on the Baina beach had contributed a great deal for the development of Goa state. They have been living there for the past 40 to 50 years, learnt Konkani, secured house numbers and become citizens of Goa. They would be pushed to the streets if they are evicted all of a sudden, he said.

He said he had appealed to Parsekar to provide rehabilitation for the evicted families. Parsekar had promised to look into the issue sympathetically and sought time for this.

Belagavi is not encroached by Kannadigas but it is visa-versa. That means Marathi people have encroached Kannada land. In 1825-26 during the rule of Kittur Chennamma, this Belagavi was just a small village with majority Kannadigas. But after first war of Independence (Rebellion by Jhansi Lakshmi & Mangal Pande in 1857 in North India) the British wanted to set up safe Military base in South India, and looking to good climate and abundant supply of water and food grains they chose Belgaum as a military base and set up Maratha-Light-Infantary (MLI) in 1862 and recruited Marathi people from neighboring Kolhapur and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra as they were afraid of Belgavi Kannadigas after they had bad experience with Kittur Chennamma's Lingayat community and Sangolli Rayanna's Kuruba and Valmiki Community who were of highly independent character and pestered British Police a lot with their guerrilla tactics). So please do not tell that Kannadigas encroached marathi land in Belgaum. I had my High School & college education in Belagavi and I know the history of Belagavi.
As regards Karwar konkanis, majority of them are descendants of people who fled Goa during inquisition by Portuguese in Goa during 16th & 17th Century. You will also find large number of such Goa migrants in Belagavi dist also, mainly in Khanapur Taluk but surprisingly they have changed their mother tongue from Konkani to marathi (which is also called as Malwani & Chitpavani languages that is- Marathi spoken in Konkani accent).

    Mr Shenava,
Do not comment sitting in managalore. If in case if belgav was a small place and britishers brought small people from Kolhapur and ratnagiri, why the hell today Marathi speaking people are more than kannadigas. Do not twist the history. Also Everybody Know wat Mr Mahajan did. I Karnatak Gov is beliveing that Belgaum is from karnataka, why does it take 2-3 years to file a reply in supreme court. Why does it take so much time to collect these documents to prove. YOu can also submit the documents from your history that Britishers brought Marathi speaking people from Kolhapur. Let the truth prevail...

Bal Gangadhar Tilak himself had openly told that Belagavi is a part of Kannada area in Bombay Province even though at that time linguistic states were not there. Tilak died in August 1920, but he visited Belagavi in 1905 just before Ganesh Chaturthi and at that time when he met the Karnataka Tiger Gangadhar Rao Despande he used the word Belagaav is a part of Karnataka and the word Karnataka was specially used by Tilak to denote Kannada area prior to Independence. Even today we can see the name of suburb Tilakwadi in the memory of Balagangadhar Tilak and Tilak's relative Gogte is having group of Colleges like Gogte Commerce college, Law College, Eng College (and proposed Medical college).
Tilak was a pure Marathi Chitpavan Brahmin and he himself agreed that Belagavi is Kannada area.

75% of Beef requirement and 50% of Goat & Lamb meat requirement of Goa is met by Karnataka.( After Maharashtra banned cow slaughter major portion of Goa's beef requirement is met by nearby Belgaum, Dharwad & Karwar districts)
90% of Vegetable requirement of Goa is met by Karnataka especially by Belgavi district.
50% of rice requirement of Goa is met by Karnataka, again it is Belgaum dist.
60% of Cereals requirement of Goa is met by Karnataka mainly by Vijapur & Gulbarga dist.
Major portion of Electricity requirement of Goa is supplied by Kaiga - Karwar.
Majority of hard working building Labours and labours in manganese mines are all from Karnataka.
So, first let Goa forgo all these and then deport Baina beach Kannadiga residents.

75% of Beef requirement and 50% goat is not bought by Goa for free. Kannadigas have a habit of encroaching other's territory. Do u know this. Look at Belgaum ( marati land), Look at karvar ( konkani land). Look at Tulu Nadu, Kodagu. All these areas have been encroached by Karnataka

Kannadigas in Goa are not beggars. They have built Goa with their blood & Sweat. Otherwise lazy Goans could not have built modern Goa without the hard work of Kannadigas. They are not encroachers in Baina, because they have been officially given House number, Electricity Connection and also Voters Card. Now powerful Hoteliers want to use Baina beach for building big resorts for foreign tourists. Hence they want to illegally drive away Kannadiga dwellers. It is the lobby of rich Hoteliers close to BJP top brass which is behind this Baina beach evacuation.
You can always see that it is only during BJP rule they create problem for Baina Kannadigas and during Congress rule in Goa the Kannadigas are not touched.
