Kundapur, Apr 15: A woman died under mysterious circumstances at a lodge near Shastri circle here on Wednesday April 15.
Though initially her identity was not known, the police later established that she was Lalitha Devadiga, a resident of Gangolli.
It is said that a man identified as Azhar Fazal Khan (32) had booked a room in the lodge about 10 days back.
On Wednesday morning, he brought the lady, aged about 58-60 years, and told the receptionist at the lodge that she was his mother. Believing his words, the receptionist did not register her name.
Later in the evening, when the room boy passed by the room where Azhar was staying, he found the door open and Lalitha fallen on the floor unconscious. Azhar was nowhere to be seen.
The room boy alerted the other staff and the woman was rushed to the government hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
Meanwhile, Azhar has gone abconding, taking away all his clothes and belongings from the lodge.
The cause and circumstances leading to the woman's death are not yet known.
Kundapur police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for Azhar.
