Mangaluru, Apr 13: It was a welcome relief from the scorching heat for the people of Dakshina Kannada district as the skies opened up on Monday April 13.
The pre-monsoon showers accompanied by thunder and lightning drenched the city and various other parts of the district. It seemed as if monsoon had already arrived with dark skies looming over the city the entire morning.
Some who were unprepared for the untimely showers were seen rushing for shelters. Umbrellas however did come out as right from morning, there were obvious signs of rain. That said, most people wished that it would rain more heavily than it actually did.
The metereological department said that the pre-monsoon showers will last for two days and may occur next month also, before the start of monsoons.
In Subramanya, 6.8 mm of rainfall was recorded at 8.30 am, while Mani received 1.6 mm of rainfall.
In Bajpe, the rainfall recorded at 11.30 am stood at 1.8mm
The temperature in the city has dipped, bringing short-lived but much-needed relief from the summer heat.
