The tradition of observing Wilfy Day started in Doha in 2010 to mark his death anniversary. After two successful events in consecutive years in Doha, the third Wilfy Rebimbus Day was held in Mangaluru in 2013 on the theme “Celebrating Womanhood” through the songs of Wilfy titled ‘Naman Tuka Avoipona’. Last year Wilfy Rebimbus day was celebrated on the theme of ‘Mahima Devachim’, ‘Glorifying God’ through the songs and hymns of Wilfy, which again was a fitting tribute to the master composer.

This year Wilfy Rebimbus Day will be celebrated with yet another new theme. There are hundreds of group songs composed by Wilfy on various themes and for different occasions. The harmony in these songs is such that it can be rendered in different voices. So the organizers are geared up this year to celebrate Wilfy Rebimbus Day by presenting the singing of his group songs under the banner ‘Jhomo Gayan Fest’ - Group Song Festival.

To make this event a memorable one the organizers have invited noted singers from different places with the groups. From Mangaluru city there will be song rendition by the groups from Bendore, Milagres, Anjelore, Casia, Jeppu trained and led by established singers like Claud D’Souza, Prem Lobo, Ivan Sequeira, Babitha D’Sa and Melwyn Peris et al, from Bajpe led by renowned composer Alwyn Noronha, and from Bondel led by the charismatic Suraj Noronha.

This time singers will be coming all the way from Udupi. There will be groups from Barkur led by Eric Soans, from Pamboor and Pangla led by Vincent Alva. Apart from these there will be a group song by a children's group comprising finalists from Wilfy Memorial Singing Competition, trained by singer Edith D’Souza. Rebimbus family will be presenting a special song to bring back Wilfy’s memory and a few dance presentations will make the show a visual treat on a stage differently designed for the occasion.

Anchoring will be done by none other than numero uno compere Leslie Rego along with reputable writer and compere Prof Vincent Alva, Pamboor and Eddie Sequeira.

A prize of Rs 10,000 is also announced by one of Wilfy’s fans to the person who can name Wilfy’s best lyrical song. Organizers can be contacted for more details on this.

The newly-elected mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Jacintha Vijay Alfred will grace this occasion as the chief guest. The secretary and superior of St Agnes College, Sr Dr Maria Roopa will be the guest of honour for the day.

The media sponsor for the show is Daijiworld Group.
