FIFA president Blatter praises Ghana FA chief's CAF re-election

Accra, April 11 (IANS): World football's govering body FIFA president Joseph Blatter has congratulated Ghana Football Association (FA) chief Kwesi Nyantakyi on his re-election to serve another term on executive of the Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF).

In a letter to the Ghana FA boss on Friday, Blatter said Nyantakyi's re-election is a clear vote of confidence in his ability by the African football community, reports Xinhua.

Nyantakyi was re-elected unopposed to serve another four-year on the CAF's decision-making body.

"As FIFA president and on behalf of the worldwide football family, I would like to congratulate you on your re-election to the CAF Executive Committee for the period 2015-2019," Blatter wrote in the letter to Nyantakyi on Friday.

"This title represents a great honor for you and a clear sign of confidence from the African Football community in your abilities, skills and experience".

Blatter said FIFA looks forward to a continued friendship and cooperation in the governance of football, noting Nyantakyi's passion for serving the game in Africa.

"Once again, please accept my sincere congratulations and very best wishes for every success and much satisfaction in your new term of office," said the FIFA boss.

Nyantakyi has been successful in qualifying the West African country to three successive FIFA World Cup finals and was instrumental in Ghana's annexing of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009, the first by any African country.

His tenure has also seen Ghana being a beneficiary of five FIFA "Goal" projects, a development program aimed at bridging the gap between the advanced countries and under-developed nations in Africa, Asia and South America.

Nyantakyi will serve on CAF's executive committee from April 2015 till April 2019.
