Kasargod, Apr 11: The Kasargod district first additional sessions court on Friday April 10 sentenced a man to 16 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 40,000 in connection with the suicide of his wife.

@kusuma. what about cases where men driven to suicide by their wives , which includes harassment and threat of filing one sided 498a. why not make laws gender neutral to give justice to men in distress. If a woman forces a husband to work late hours to earn extra bugs , isn't it a harassment from her side !!?.

let's take above incidents , even if one assumes case is genuine it carries almost 3 or 4 years of sentencing for abettment suicide. why 16 years !!? , Judge sitting in chair should not give one sided judgement.

Women are mostly suppressed because they are week and sensitive and more emotional compare to men. For centuries they have been exploited by men.Women are important member of a family. They should be educated, empowered and respected. Then onlly we can have good society. There may be some bad women but men Has to be strong to face them. If They can not handle the situation they should not lead a married life.

    Roshan,

I somewhat agree with you. But what we have to ask ourselves is whether both things are same ( Women torturing men or men torturing women). I have always wondered whether I pander towards feminists in this matter. I agree that there might be cases of men being treated badly by women and they might have driven them to committing suicide. But if you look otherway the numbers are really huge.

16 years of sentencing ( more than life imprisonment ) just for abettment of suicide itself is a gross human rights violation. Post does not highlight his other crimes and convictions under other IPC. The judgement looks like knee jerk reaction due to rising crimes against women but ignorant of cases where men got lynched publicly under false case.

We are bragging that India rescued people from 23 countries. But India's daughters are either committing suicide, gang raped or murdered by poring gasoline. What a pity

Appreciate this judgment, Why not death sentence for illegally marrying 6 times. Now for 16 years innocent tax payers has to pay their hard earned money to feed him. He has gone to jail for doing the crime and tax payers is fined to please them!

Some thing is better than nothing. He might again apply in HC, SC and get away till he become too old if survived. The sentence looks too little as an average of 2.5 years per marriage/crime.
