Kundapur, Apr 10: "When I was the Lokayukta, I had submitted several reports to the government on various issues after detailed investigation. The inaction by the government with regard to those reports has saddened me," said former Lokayukta, Justice Santhosh Hegde.
He was speaking at Amasebail High School on Friday, April 10 after presiding over a programme jointly held by Amasebail Charitable Trust, district and taluk panchayat department in welfare of backward class and backward tribe, agricultural produce marketing committee, Karnataka bank and Dharmasthala rural development project to set in motion several government projects in Amasebail gram.
"I had brought to the notice of the government the fact that the power to issue BPL cards was given to people's representatives instead of the tahsildar. There is still no action on the report on illegal sand mining and iron ore mining. The sad part is, the situation has come to such a level that a report submitted by a Supreme Court judge is being investigated by an official of the IGP rank," he further said.
"If the three pillars of democracy discharge their duties properly, the responsibility of people’s representatives decreases. However due to the loopholes in administration, the participation of people’s representatives increases and unnecessary problems are created. The solutions to problems can be found only when people think on them and act," he added.
District incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake who inaugurated the hostel for girls from backward classes said that the belief that a country can prosper if its villages prosper is becoming true. "We should have the wisdom to make good use of the resources available with us. The government is preparing programmes with the belief that country can develop only if its children are provided good education.
"On Apri 20, chief minister Siddaramaiah will be inaugurating the release of water into the canals of Varahi. The cabinet sub-committee has already heard the opinion of people who are likely to be affected by the implementation of Kasturirangan report. The state government will convey the feelings of the people to the union government," he further said.
Karnataka Bank president Anantakrishna inaugurated the formal stage programme. Udupi -Chikkamagaluru constituency MP Shobha Karandlaje distributed scholarships to students. Former minister and MLC Kota Srinivasa Poojary laid foundation stone for fish market.
District central cooperative bank president M N Rajendra Kumar inaugurated the agricultural produce outlet. Dharmasthala rural development project executive director Dr L H Manjunath distributed spectacles to school children. Member of Vidhana Parishat K Pratapchandra Shetty inaugurated the new bus stand. Byndoor MLA K Gopala Poojary inaugurated the rickshaw and taxi stand.
Kundapur tahsildar Gayatri Nayak, zilla panchayat member Geethanjali Suvarna, taluk panchayat member Nivinchandra Shetty and local school headmaster Thimmappa were present as guests.
The monthly compensation cheques for Endosulfan victims were distributed from the Chief Minister's compensation fund on the occasion.
Amasebail Charitable trust president A G Kodgi welcomed. Rajesh Kundapur compered the programme. Gram panchayat president Sadashiva Shetty proposed vote of thanks.
