Udupi, Apr 8: DG and IGP Om Prakash on Wednesday April 8 addressed the media at the Coast Guards administrative office at Malpe here and said that moral policing in Dakshina Kannada cannot be tolerated and those who indulge in it will be dealt with strictly.
"We are aware about the increasing instances of moral policing in DK. The so-called moral police activists will be dealt with severely. We have zero tolerance towards moral policing. Wherever it happens, we will take stern action against the culprits. The department is working towards the betterment of the social system and it is not one-day process," Om Prakash said.
On measures taken to provide security for women, he said, "Various laws and acts have come into force pertaining to women security. The police department is also training and sensitizing the police force to deal with cases regarding women. Special workshops are being held for the police to create awareness about how to investigate cases related to women."
To a question on shortage of police personnel, he said, "The lack of police personnel is not a new issue and we are filling up the vacant posts at the earliest. This year alone, we have recruited more than 8,000 police personnel."
When questioned about misuse of social media, he said police will take stern action regarding this.
On Naxal activities in the Western Ghats, he said that the situation was under control and effective actions have been taken by the police and the ANF to contain such activities.
To a question on the Bengaluru student Gautami who was shot dead at a hostel recently, he declined to comment and said it would not be right to talk about the details of the case while the investigation was in progress.
He further said the police officers were doing a good job, putting their best and honest efforts and doing unbiased work to curtail anti-social elements.
