Mangaluru, Apr 3: The 423rd annual and 20th quinquennial (five-year) Uroos of Ullal Sayyid Madani Dargah was inaugurated by Ullal Qazi Asayyid Fazal Koyamma Tangal Madani Al Bukhari on Thursday April 2.
The same occasion also witnessed the inauguration of the renovated Dargah.
Health minister U T Khadar said that Ullal Dargah is a world renowned shrine and is called the 'Ajmer of south'.
Ullal Dargah committee president U S Hamza said that 25 to 30 lacs of people irrespective of religion are expected to visit the Dargah during the Uroos. A team of 2500 volunteers have been formed and various responsibilities have been entrusted to them in order to make the Uroos celebrations smooth and peaceful. He informed that various governmental departments like heath, police and fire services have extended their co operation.
Governor, chief minister of Karnataka, various political leaders from throughout the country and other dignitaries are expected to grace the functions during the Uroos.
Ulama scholars will deliver religious lectures prior to Maghrib Namaz on all days of the Uroos.
At 2.30 pm on April 12, a felicitation function presided over by Ullal Qazi, Assayyed Fazal Koyamma Tangal will be held in which union law and justice minister, Sadananda Gowda, MPs, Mallikarjun Kharge, JD(S) state chief H D Kumaraswamy, ministers K J George, Ramanath Rai, U T Khadar, Vinay Kumar Sorake, R V Deshpande, Qamarul Islam, Roshan Baig, Ambarish and others will be participating. On April 25, Sandal procession, Burda Majlis, followed by feast on April 26, are some of the other programmes on the anvil.
