Mangaluru, Apr 2: Police from rural police station here have arrested three persons from near a bus shelter adjacent to a college at Volachil here. These arrests were made on Tuesday March 31.
The arrested men are Saleem (36), who was selling ganja, and his customers, Manjunath (22) and Ranganath (22), both of whom allegedy bought ganja.
It is said that Saleem and Jabbar alias Manga Jabbar were seated in a parked auto rickshaw, and selling ganja to college students and general public from there. When police conducted the raid, Jabbar sped from the scene and escaped. The police found 1,100 grams of ganja and Rs 900 in cash found in the possession of Saleem. Cash, ganja, auto rickshaw, and a mobile phone of Saleem were seized by the police.
The policemen found eight sachets of ganja weighing 40 grams from Manjunath and Ranganath, both of whom are students, who had come there to buy ganja. The policemen confiscated ganja, cell phone, and car from the duo. The total value of ganja seized has been calculated at Rs 22,800.
All the arrested accused were produced in court, after which they were remanded to judicial custody. The police said that Saleem has a criminal background, who faces two cases of ganja trafficking and a murder case.
Assistant police commissioner, Kalyan Shetty, rural police inspector, Pramod Kumar, police sub-inspector, M D Maddi and other staff were involved with the raid.
