Kundapur, Mar 20: In a tragic incident that came to light on Friday March 20, a bride-to-be allegedly committed by jumping into a well at Paduvari near Byndoor here.

The deceased is Anasuya (28), daughter of Era Devadiga, a resident of Paduvari.

The third daughter of Era Devadiga, Anusuya's marriage was recently fixed with Chandra Devadiga of Naikanakatte. The engagement was held on October 12, 2014 at the girl's house, and wedding was scheduled for May 12 this year. Wedding preparations were going on in full swing.

Sources said that the families had discussed and decided upon ten sovereigns of gold along with Rs 90,000 as dowry, out of which Rs 10,000 was given recently as advance. Also Rs 30,000 was spent by the girl's family on the engagement, it is learnt.

As the wedding day drew nearer, the preparations gained momentum, and till Thursday March 19, Anusuya was said to be in good spirits, but since the afternoon of Thursday, she seemed to have become quiet. Sources said that her fiance had come to her house on Thursday and created a scene over some issue, and it is suspected that Anusuya, feeling depressed by this, allegedly committed suicide.

On Thursday night too, Anusuya did not talk to anybody and on early Friday morning she reportedly jumped into a well near her house. When she was not found at home in the morning, her family members searched for her and found her dead in the well.

Anusuya's family has alleged that her fiance Chandra was an alcoholic and mentally harassed her.

Byndoor police have registered a case.

What a way to end life ! Why our girls and women have to go through such painful and mental torture in their lives? We have to blame our own people who have made these stupid customs and systems where our girls are put as trial pieces. I pity that girl who went through this trauma in her life which she could not bear anymore. Where are our Sangh Parivars, BDs or moral policing personnel when such things take place in their neighbourhood?? wake up men and act now ? I completely agree with one commenter. 'make our girls educated and independent which will make them confident and face their life courageously' RIP to departed soul.

Many unmarried girls are not willing to marry for a couple of reasons, they are scared of male domination and torture and secondly dowry harassment especially to their parents after marriage.
There is no end to such crimes, best way is to educate girls and let them be confident and if necessary independent, If husband is not caring, she can live her life by getting employed
She was quiet must be huge conflict going on her mind to dare to take such a nasty step
If get married torture, if not get married fear of society

Why only registered a case. They should have arrested heads of both parties and the groom for demanding\paying dowry which is against the law.
If you could create a ruckus before marriage itself, he would do worse after marriage. He must have said something serious to his would be bride on money matters.
Take proper action on all of them.

I have observed throughout my life of last 40 years that the Christian missionaries take care of uncared, insane, mentally & physically disabled poor sick people without expecting any monitory gain. Since they have a network of required facility every nook and corner, city or rural places, they can publicize to the entire country that they are there to help anyone at any time to people who think to end their life due to desperation for any reason. Hope they will be very much pleased to do this. Hats off to you dear missionaries. Hope right wing, left wing, upper wing, lower wing, take some lesson from these people. You will definitely feel the difference.

I thought the picture is of the father blessing the daughter, such a devil looking old f^*t wants money to marry that pretty young girl. In fact he should have paid the girls father to get her as his bride. Poor girl must have thought marrying him and living in his company will be a hell 24/7 so she ended her life without realizing the pain she will cause to those helpless parents who may be more concerned about the wagging tongues of the society than the well being of their own daughter. How many more females should kill themselves before the dowry menace is abolished completely? I wish he spends rest of his life behind bars so that he does not go out looking for brides and black mail other parents. RIP Anushuya, your life was precious and you were beautiful.

It is a curse to be poor. As Yousuf K, Bangalore rightly pointed out who cares for the poor. All politicians are behind the death of DK Ravi to pull out political points. Better not to die hundred times at the hand of a drunkard than die once. RIP..

It is sad and unfortunate that Bride-to-be Anasuya ends her life by jumping into the well at Byndoor but reason cited here is would be bridegroom Chandra Devadiga is an alcoholic addict and with rude behavior. But girl's family should have come to know before their engagement? If they knew that fact, why did they forced the girl to get engaged? That is parents fault I believe. After seeing the rude behavior of Chandra,Girl might have got dejected, depressed and decided to take an extreme step. Now whom to be blamed? Girl or parents?Gone is gone, can't be brought back.May her departed soul rest in peace.

I feel very sad to hear this tragic incident. Since family members knew that she was depressed and never talked to anybody, a careful watch on her movement might have helped, which the villagers do not take seriously.
I know a more or less similar case in Mumbai, where the girl happened to ask her mother, whether any time in her life she got any feeling to commit suicide. Mother immediately phoned her elder daughter, who fortunately happens to be a psychology graduate. The elder daughter came home immediately with her small children and counseled her and kept her busy playing with the children. The girl overcame her depression within some days and started to do her normal activities. The marriage was cancelled. Any way, all are not lucky to have such a sister.

Which is that glorious culture, that is already since 1960s.
Indians are trying to imitate western culture while trying to show they are still in Indian culture.
Anyway it is going to be doomed.

Incredible India , we are telling , projecting world's best culture. at the bottom line women are burnt , still not independent. our politicians cry for valentine days , but our women are abused. we are showcasing only our best part to the world , but put under wrap our worst things . still lot of young poor girls are vulnerable and exploited. Not Incredible India , degraded India

Harassing and abusing existed in every culture in the world, maybe beating is the exception. The other difference is in my opinion that, girl from other culture is more stronger than Indian girl to handle some of the sensitive issues like this one.

"Anusuya's family has alleged that her fiancée Chandra was an alcoholic and mentally harassed her."
    1. They should have know this prior.
    2. Cameras do not lie and in Photo 6 the boy (?) comes across like a cousin of a cockroach.
    3. Why Daiji's photographer put here some 4 photos of the well? This is also a mystery.
    4. Sad that a girl had to end her life this way. Maybe she had high hopes and dreams. How can a cock roach know it?
