Udupi, Jan 13: The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Karnataka Olympics Association, and the district administrations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are jointly organising the Karnataka Sports Meet 2025, which will take place from January 17 to January 23 in Udupi and Mangaluru.
Dr Vidya Kumari, deputy commissioner of Udupi district, addressing the media at a press conference on Monday, January 13, announced that the event will be inaugurated on January 17 at 4 pm at Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The sports meet will feature competitions in 25 different sports categories, with 3,247 athletes, 599 technical officials, and 404 organising team members, totaling 4,250 participants. Of the total events, 12 competitions will be held in Mangaluru, 11 in Udupi and Manipal, and 2 in Bengaluru.
In Udupi, the events will include archery, athletics, boxing, cycling, judo, kabaddi, wrestling, kayaking, canoeing, hockey, lawn tennis, and table tennis. Hockey, lawn tennis, and table tennis will be held in Manipal, while kayaking and canoeing will take place at the Swarna River in Brahmavar.
Archery will be conducted at MJC Ground, and other events will be hosted at district stadiums and tennis courts. Udupi will see 1,633 participants, including 1,373 athletes and 260 technical staff. Separate competitions for men and women will be held in all categories.
Athletes will compete for a total of 631 gold medals, 631 silver medals, and 827 bronze medals.
The valedictory ceremony will take place on January 23 at 5 pm at Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium in Udupi, presided over by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara will also attend, along with Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader, District in-charge ministers Lakshmi Hebbalkar and Dinesh Gundu Rao, and other public representatives from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.
Superintendent of Police Arun and other officials were also present at the press conference.
