Mangaluru, Mar 18: Two suspected terrorists brought to the city by Mumbai police were produced in the third sessions court here on Wednesday March 18, in connection with the seizure of explosives at Mukkachery, Ullal, in 2007.
Syed Mohammed Naushad and Ahmed Bava Abubakker, suspected of having terror links, were brought to the city by the Mumbai police.
Along with them, other accused in the case, namely Mohammed Ali, Javed Ali, Mohammed Rafiq, Fakir Ahmed, and Shabbir Bhatkal were also produced in the court.
They were arrested in 2007 after police raided a house at Mukkachery in Ullal and found explosives. Altogether, seven persons including two from Ullal and and four from Mangaluru had been arrested in this connection. It was during then that police received information about terrorist activities in Mangaluru and around, which later led to revelations about Indian Mujahideen co-founder and other suspected terrorists' activities in the city.
Totally, 13 persons were accused in the case. Among them, Shabbir Bhatkal is lodged in Mangaluru district jail while the other four - Javed, Mohammed Ali, Rafiq and Fakir are out on bail. Another accused is said to be in a jail in Gujarat while five others are still absconding.
The accused face charges under anti-terror laws and illegal possession of weapons.
The court said that the next hearing in the case will be on June 3 this year.
