Guwahati, March 13 (IANS): A day after beating Nepal in the World Cup Qualifiers Round 1, the Indian football team on Friday underwent a training session here under newly-appointed assistant Coach Danny Deigan.
A sports scientist, who will be in charge of fitness, rehabilitation and conditioning of the team, Deigan had earlier worked in the A-League and with clubs as an expert on strengthening, conditioning and rehabilitation.
National chief Coach Stephen Constantine said Deigan's arrival will help the players in proper strengthening and conditioning both in short term as well as long term basis.
"It's important to plan the diet and the eating habits of the players at any given time,a Constantine said in an AIFF release.
"Football is all about detail and someone who pays attention to it is required. Danny will add something to the national team which it never had and it will have its impact, both in the short term as well as long term," he added.
A brace from goal-scoring machine Sunil Chhetri enabled India beat Nepal 2-0 in Sajusarai here on Thursday.
India will travel to Kathmandu on March 14 to play their return leg match against Nepal on March 17.
