Mangaluru, Feb 28: A press meet was organized at MCC here on February 28 to create awareness about solid waste management.
Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, MCC commissioner urged the people to separate the dry waste and wet waste. She also asked the people to give the dry waste only on Wednesday and wet waste on other days of the week.
She further said, “In all urban areas, waste management is an important task. Full implementation of waste management has not been achieved by any municipality. Anthony has started working from February 1. We have targets of making the city clean. We are progressing towards our targets. If everything goes well then by the end of March 31, 2015, we will achieve our targets. We will start source segregation soon. Solid waste management is a prime responsibility of commissioner".
Speaking to the press reporters, Mayor Mahabala Maarla said, “Anthony has taken over the responsibility of looking over the waste management in the city. Commissioner has been taking the weekly review about the project work. Once the project is completely implemented, we are planning to levy a fine if someone throws the household waste here and there”.
