Mangaluru, Feb 26: Several persons including three police personnel were injured in stone pelting between two groups at KC Road near Talapady on Wednesday February 25 night. The clashes erupted over some issues related to buntings.
As per reports, a group of persons were putting up buntings and flags in preparation of Brahma Kalashotsava at KC Road junction. Another group which objected to this, switched off the street lights and started pelting stones and soda bottles. When the exchange of stones took place between these groups, the vehicular movement on the highway was disrupted and a Duster car was damaged.
The police came to control the situation, but in the process police personnel Chandra Naik, Kamalakhshya and ASI Mohandas were injured and admitted to hospital. Other personnel from KSRP were also injured. Two Talapady residents Dinesh and Madhava who happened to be at the place of conflict also were injured.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area. DCP Vishnuvardhan, Ullal station officer Pavithra Teja and PSI Bharati have been stationed at the spot to monitor the situation.
13 shops burnt
After the KC Road stone pelting incident, unknown miscreants set fire into 13 shops in Thokkottu. All the shops were completely burnt down.
A plastic shop (owned by Irfan), 3 vegetable shops (owned by Ida, Ibrahim and Bawa) 3 grocery shops (owned by Bhagwandas, Lathif, and Mansoor), a chappal shop (owned by Rafiq), a dry fish shop (owned by Monu), a toys shop (owned by Mustafa), 2 flower shops (owned by Ibrahim and Ida), garment shop (owned by Aziz) have been gutted down.
The shops were set fire at around 9 pm. The fire brigade which arrived later could not save the shops. The losses have been estimated in lacs.
A case has been registered at Ullal police station. The situation is still tensed in the area.
