Meanwhile, among the four persons detained, Mallesh was arrested and produced in court, remanded in police custody for a week. The other three are expected to be arrested soon.
The mysterious case came to light on Friday February 20 after a body of an unidentified man was found. It was initially assumed that the deceased man was Ramdas Poojary from Mumbai who had gone missing in Dharmashtala in December 2014. However, the four persons who were detained and brought to the spot for identification said that the dead man was not Ramdas Poojary, but admitted to have killed the unidentified man for money.

The deceased man, aged about 60-65 years, was found to be hanging from a tree. As the body was decomposed, it is suspected that he might have died about four-five months back.
A case was registered based on a complaint filed by Dharmasthala panchayat development officer Ratnaraj Hegde.
It is not yet known if Mallesh and his accomplices have any connection with the death of this man. It is also not known whether it was a case of suicide or murder. A clear picture would emerge investigation, police said.
Meanwhile, search for Ramdas is still on. Though the gang had reportedly said they had murdered Ramdas, police said his death is not yet certain and he may be only missing.
District superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa informed that samples of the unidentified bodies have been collected and sent for DNA tests.
