Lil Wayne sues Birdman for $51 mn

Los Angeles, Jan 29 (IANS): Rapper Lil Wayne has filed a lawsuit against record label Cash Money Records and its boss Birdman in an attempt to get out of his contract.

According to the lawsuit, Wayne claims Birdman and his record label violated the terms of his record deal by withholding millions of dollars that Cash Money owes him for his “Tha Carter V” album that has been pushed back indefinitely from its original December 2014 release date, reports tmz.com.

Wayne claims he's entitled to leave the label because they refused to pay.

Not only does Wayne want to be released from his contract, but he also demands $51 million from the label. Additionally, he wants a judge to name him a joint copyright owner of the recordings of all Young Money artists including Drake, Nicki Minaj and others.

According to a source Wayne will still let Birdman release his "Tha Carter V" album, but only if he gets paid.

Wayne was reportedly supposed to receive $8 million when he started recording the project back in December 2013 and another $2 million when he completed it a year later. But, he has got nothing so far.
