Mangaluru, Jan 19: Relating to the attempt on the life of Mukhesh (28) from Kumpala late night on Saturday January 17, four persons have been arrested by Ullal police.
It is learnt that Mukhesh had visited a bar and restaurant in Thokkottu Kapikad on Saturday night in the company of his friend, Sunil. After having dinner there, he was returning to Kumpala in an auto rickshaw operated by Sunil, when the three-wheeler he was travelling in was intercepted by Kiran alias Ravi (24) from Kumpala Moorukatte, Rajesh Rao (25), resident of Kumpala Ashraya Colony, Neetu alias Nitesh (26) from Kolya Kaneeruthota, and Rakshit (21) from Kapikad. It is said that there was pre-existing enmity between the gang and Mukhesh in connection with some past incidents.
As per reports, the above four persons, after stopping the auto in a deserted stretch, attacked Mukhesh with stones and bottles. They fled after forcing a broken bottle into Mukhesh's stomach. Sunil and some others then provided initial treatment to Mukhesh at a private hospital in Thokkottu before shifting him to a private hospital in Deralakatte for advanced treatment. A complaint was lodged in Ullal police station relating to the incident, upon which the police succeeded in arresting the accused.
It is said that Mukhesh happens to be involved with Bajrang Dal activities. Mukhesh was one among the 32 persons accused of trying to kill Jayaprakash from Hindu Jagaran Vedike at Kumpala by setting his car on fire in August 2013. Although the two groups had been brought on a single forum for talks under the leadership of Hindu leaders and the incident was settled amicably, the group led by Nitesh continued to nurture enmity, and tried to avenge the earlier attack through the present murder attempt,it is said.
Ullal police have begun investigation.
