Kundapur, Jan 14: The police have arrested six persons in connection to the clashes that broke out in Kodi on Sunday January 11 night. The arrests were made not only for the clashes but also in connection to the assualt of an innocent youth.
Four persons, whose names have been given as Zakir, Sadvik, Arshad and Abdul Rahiman have been arrested relating to the flare up at Kodi.
As a result of the clashes, two persons were admitted into Chinmayee Hospital in the town, after which some youth, in a fit of rage, had launched a murderous assault on an innocent youth of another community. Relating to this incident, the police have arrested two, identified as Ranjan and Rakesh.

After two groups of youth belonging to different communities fought a pitched battle near the old estuary in Kodi on Sunday night, Bharat (17) and Ranjit (22) from Halavalli were admitted to a private hospital here with serious injuries. A large number of youngsters had gathered in front of the hospital then. When a person named Muhammed Awaiz (17), who had visited the hospital to buy medicines, was seen going back, some youth in the group asked for his name, it is said. Once they learnt that he was from another community, the youths beat him up, after which he was hospitalized. A case relating to this incident was registered in the police station here.
Acting swiftly under the directions of the district superintendent of police, Annamalai, and newly posted deputy superintendent of police here, Manjunath Shetty, police circle inspector, Diwakar P M, and sub-inspector, Nassir Hussain, made these arrests and arranged for tight vigil to ensure that disturbances do not spill over to new areas. The police have been hunting for some more accused.
To maintain round-the-clock watch over the situation, three check posts have been set up by the police - one at Halavalli, the other at Ramanagara, with an outpost at M Kodi. Each of these check posts are manned by two policemen, while the outpost has an additional staff in the form of an assistant police sub-inspector.
