New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS): Indian designer duo Shane and Falguni Peacock, who have designed for the likes of Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez, have been honoured with the Bharat Samman Award for 2014, constituted by the NRI Institute 27 years ago.
The Bharat Samman Awards are given to a select group of people of Indian origin by NRI institute, a non-profit NGO registered body, for outstanding achievements in the chosen field of activities.
The award is a recognition to those who have make India proud and this is the first time ever, the NRI Institute has given an award to fashion designers for their work.
Commenting on the honour, Falguni said: “We work really hard to take our brand overseas and create recognition worldwide. We feel all those late nights where we work simultaneously on India, New York and London timings to establish us globally have finally paid off.
“Year 2015 is already off to great start for us and we would like to thank the NRI Institute for bestowing this honour upon us.”
Adding to this, Shane said: “We want to keep expanding and establishing our unique fashion talent globally. This award allows India to be in the fashion map internationally and testifies the power of India on the global front."
The duo has showcased their creations at the London Fashion Week and participated at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. Their show was attended by American singer Ashanti and actress Michelle Williams, both of whom wore their outfits.
