Mangaluru: CM to present Konkani Sahitya Academy Awards on Jan 18

Mangaluru, Jan 12: "Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will confer Honorary Award, Book Award and Yuva Puraskar for the year 2014 at Samsa Bayalu Ranga Mandira (Ravindra Kalakshetra) Bangalore on January 18." said Roy Castellino, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

He was addressing the press meet at Press Club on here on Monday Janaury 12.

He also said that chief minister Siddaharamaiah will confer the awards. State minister Ramalinga Reddy will be chief guest for the programme. State minister R V Deshpande will preside on this occasion. Umashree, state minister for Kannada and Culture, Shanthakumari, mayor of BBMP, MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D'Souza and Dr P Dayanand will be guests for the programme.

On this occasion three books, 'Khaandi Kuuris' (collection of stories) written by Valli Vaggha, 'Santhakavi Kanakadasa' (translated) by Dr Geetha Shenoy and 'Thaswinth' (art work and poems) by Wilson Kateel and Wilson Kayyar will be released.

On January 17, there will be Konkani cultural programme by various Konkani cultural teams.

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Honorary Award winners are Padma Shenoy (literature), Gajanana Mahale (folklore), Koni Sheshagiri Nayak (art), while Book Awards will go to Naveen Kurmbil (collection of short stories), Nageshkumar G Rao (poems), and G V Carlo (translation). Ashwin M Prabhu (music), Prajwal M Nayak (Yoga), and Arun Nayak (artiste) have been selected for youth awards.

Padma Shenoy: She has written a Konkani novel titled 'Vaishakha Phullo'. She has presided over several Konkani poetry recitals. She has been awarded the district Rajyotsava award and the Academy award for the year 2014 for her achievements in Konkani literature.

Gajanana Mahale, Dharwad: He has involved himself in drama, dance and music. He has acted in hundreds of dramas. He has also acted in Chamatkara and Singarevva films. He has been awarded Academy Janapada award for 2014 considering his contribution to Janapada art.

Koni Sheshagiri Nayak: Being a creator and director of dramas, he has created Satya Harischandra, Satyavan Savithri, Lagna Patrike, 'Sera Savva Ser' etc in Konkani. He has worked in Konkani and Kannada dramas for the last forty years. He has conducted several workshops concerning dramas. The Academy Arts award for 2014 has been awarded to him considering his contribution to art.

Navin Kurmbil, Kinnigoli: Several of his small stories are published in Konkani newspapers. He has also written for Kannada newspapers. His small story has won cash prize and award in the competition held by Kanik newspaper. His story 'Nanv Nathello Peto' is published in Romi script. His book 'Devacha Bhagevontano' is selected for Academy book award for 2014.

Dr Nagesh Kumar G Rao, Manipal: He has made a name for himself in Konkani literature. He has written 'Valmikile Bhagya' translated work. Being a doctor he has written several essays on teaching and medical research. His 'Magani Krishna Thuka', collection of poems has been awarded Academy book award for the year 2014.

J V Carlo: For his translation 'Gandhichem Parzallik Fuddarponn' (From the book on Gandhi in English authoured by former Ambassador of India, Pascal Alan Nazareth). J V Carlo was interested in literature since young age and involved specially in translation. He has published 3 translated novels and more than 50 small short stories in Konkani newspapers and Internet. His translation 'Gandhichem Parzallik Fuddarponn' from English is selected for Academy book award for 2014.

Ashwin M Prabhu, Mysore: Being a blossoming talent in music, he has presented several music programmes. He has won several awards in TV programmes. The Academy youth award for 2014 is awarded to him considering his talent.

Prajwal M Nayak, Bangalore: He has been undergoing training in Yoga from fifth standard. He has won several medals in Yoga competitions. The Academy youth award is presented to him considering his talent in Yoga.

Arun Nayak, Dharwad, Akashvani artiste: He works in Konkani department of Dharwad Akashwani and presented several programmes. He has been working hard for the development of Konkani. The Academy Youth award is being presented to him considering his contribution to Konkani.

On this occasion Lawrence and Devdas Pai were present.

    congratulations to all the Konkani Sahitya Academy Awardees. All of you deserve it.It is good to note that CM and many other ministers and dignitories are going to grace the function. Konkani is coastal karnataka language. Mangalore could have been ideal place for the function. For the future, pleas keep in mind. Wishing all the best to Konkani Sahitya Academy
