Mangaluru, Jan 11: “There is a specific strategy behind drug mafia - to destabilize the youth power and weaken the nation," said former deputy CM R Ashok.
He was addressing a gathering at ‘Yuva Chaithanya Yatra’ organized by the state BJP Yuva Morcha on the occasion of 152th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at Urwa Store Maidan here on Saturday, January 10.
He further said that Swami Vivekananda preached the culture of the nation to the entire world and dreamt to make this country free from addiction and also bring women to the mainstream.
On drug mafia, he said, “Drug mafia is rampantly functioning in the coastal belt. The drug mafia is also the reason for the murder of Keshava Shetty in the city. Law and order has failed in the state. This government has failed to prevent the increasing cases of sexual assaults and terrorist activities.
"Money which comes from drug sale is used for funding terrorism. Soldiers and police alone cannot curb the drug mafia. People should join hands to eradicate the mafia by educating the youth in college campuses and public places," he added.
Muniraju Gowda, state president of BJP Yuva Morcha said, "Swami Vivekananda is an inspiration to many in the nation. Anti-social elements involved in drug mafia are functioning rampantly in the coastal belt and Kodagu, targeting the youth. Youth should take an oath to make the entire nation free from drugs.
"Anti-national elements can move out to Pakistan and Yuva Morcha will make arrangement for their tickets," he remarked.
State leader Raghavendra and national chief secretary Muruganandhan also spoke on the occasion.
Capt Ganesh Karnik, Monappa Bhandary, Nagaraj Shetty, Yuva Morcha leaders Kishor Kumar, Vikas Puttur and Brijesh Chowta among others were present.
