Chickmagaluru, Jan 11: “An Academy should not be confined to a language or community. We should cross that limit and proceed further”, said former minister of higher education B A Mohiddin.
He was speaking at the conference of Awards for the year 2014 and Beary language conference held at the Okkaliga hall here on Saturday, January 10. “Beary language is not confined to Bearys alone. It is spoken by Malayalis, Tuluvas, Billavas and others. We should proceed in harmony in our struggle for the language”, he said.
“We should understand the difficulties of each other. The government has established the academy for the development of the language and provides funds for it. The language should go beyond religion”, he said.
MP K Jayaprakash Hegde spoke and said that there should not be barriers in language. The attempt to unite society through language should succeed, he said.
Deputy Commissioner B S Shekharappa said that there are languages,community, religion, groups and celebrations in society. Meanwhile nobody should be blind with language, he said.
Former Congress district president M L Moorthi spoke saying that the Congress government did not start Beary Academy in their rule of 60 years. However former JDS Chief Minister Kumaraswamy’s announcement of starting the Beary Academy has made us glad, he said.
Academy president B A Mohammed Haneef gave an introductory speech.Beary alliance president K Mohammed presided over the programme.
Ashraf Apollo group sang Beary poem. Academy Registrar Umarabba welcomed. Member Ashraf Hameed Golthamajalu compered the programme. Zohara Abbas proposed vote of thanks.
