Bengaluru, Jan 7: Reversing its recent decision asking second year pre university students to study the entire contents of the prescribed textbooks for the annual exams in March 2015, the department of pre university education (DPUE) on Tuesday announced that students could go by the “Blow Up” syllabus for this year.
The decision to change the syllabus for the II PU exams came two days ago from the department. The department would also conduct a statewide common preparatory exam to help the students cope with the changes.
However, students felt that the decision of the department came too late in the academic year. Several II PU students, under the aegis of the All India Democratic Students Organisation, staged a dharna as a form of protest against this directive at the Mysore Bank Circle in the City on tuesday. demanding that the department retain the blow-up syllabus for the II PU exams.
Director of the department Sushama Godbole confirmed the reversal of this decision.
Primary and Secondary education minister Kimmane Ratnakar clarified that the decision to retain the blow-up syllabus would only hold for this year. From the next academic year students would be required to study the entire syllabus.
Since last year was the first time that the syllabus for the exams was on par with the CBSE curriculum the department had issued a blow-up syllabus which was a compilation of all the important concepts. This had to be done as it was noticed that the teachers experienced difficulty in teaching the newly introduced textbooks confirming NCERT standards.
