Margao, Dec 15: Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane inaugurated the 4-day ‘Madgaon Utsav 2006’ festival on Thursday evening at Margao, and said that people should take active part in such festivals to foster unity, amity and harmony.

The directorate of art and culture in association with West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur has organized the 4-day festival.

On this occasion international sports personalities like Dilip Sardessai, Brahmanand Shakhwalkar and Savio Madeira were honoured by the chief minister. Anand Sardessai accepted the honour on behalf of his brother, Dilip Sardesai.

Art and culture minister Digamber Kamat declared that this event will be permanently held in Margao every year in better way.

As part of the festival Kamat also inaugurated the handicrafts stalls on the SGPDA Market ground.

Art and culture director Prasad Lolyekar welcomed the gathering and Raju Nayak proposed a vote of thanks, while Shridhar kamat and Rati Bhatikar compered the programme.

Bollywood playback singer Sudesh Bhosle along with his group performed and made people dance to Konkani, Marathi and Hindi songs beats.

More Bollywood Stars and local artistes will perform till December 17.
