Bengaluru, Jan 5: The Kumaraswamy Layout police here have succeeded in cracking a case in which owner of a transport company was murdered and his body was tossed into Vrushabhavati canal by one of his drivers. The police learn that differences of opinion relating to finances were behind this murder.
Mahesh (35), who was operating Ventures Travels in Koramangala was allegedly murdered by one of his drivers named Srinivas (25).
Srinivas was working with Mahesh since the last three years, and had earned the confidence of transport owner. About six months back, Mahesh had asked Srinivas to arrange for loan of five lac rupees. Srinivas obliged, and arranged for five lac rupees loan through his friend, Manju. Mahesh promptly returned the loan after a month to Srinivas, but Srinivas delivered only one lac rupees to Manju, as he had gambled with this money and lost four lac rupees.
Upset by this turn of events, Srinivas was shifted from Innova to Tempo Traveller vehicle by Mahesh. Srinivas was angry at this. He operated the vehicle for two days and went on two days leave, without remitting the money collected from customers during these two days. Mahesh called Srinivas over phone and demanded to deposit the money the customers had given.
On this occasion, Mahesh told Srinivas that he was in need of one lac rupees. Srinivas promised to arrange for money and called Srinivas to come to his native place. Once Mahesh reached there, he tightened a towel around the face of Srinivas with the help of a friend named Manukumar, and smothered him to death.
The police, who hit the trail of events after receiving missing complaint from Mahesh's father, took Srinivas into custody on the basis of suspicion. Srinivas reportedly admitted that he had travelled on NICE road via Kengeri and tossed the body into Vrushabhavati canal. The police are now on the lookout for Manukumar, who has gone into hiding.
Inspector of the station, T D Nagaraj, had investigated the case under the guidance of deputy commissioner of police, Lokesh Kumar.
