Mangaluru, Jan 1: The foundation stone was laid for the new home for the retired priests of Mangalore diocese by Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza, at St Antony's Charitable Institution premises on January 1.
The Bishop led the prayer and blessed the foundation stone of the clergy home named as "St Joseph Vas Home". Bishop expressed his appreciation and requested the priests present to contribute financially towards the completion of the mega project.
Speaking at the occasion. Fr Willaim Menezes, the PRO and Estate manager gave details regarding the project. The project is spread in an area of 95 cense of land at St Antony’s Institute. The clergy home is named as St Joseph Vaz Home after the memory of the saint who came to Mangalore. The project provides homes for 35 priests.6000 square feet building of three stories costing 12 corers, with well furnished rooms and all the modern facilities required for the senior priests to spend their retired life peacefully. The project will be completed by May 2016.
Along with Bishop Mnsgr Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar general, Fr John Vas, procurator, Fr Onil ,director of St Antony’s Home, M P Noronha, secretary Diocesan pastoral parished, Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director Fr Muller Hospital, Fr Joseph Martis the Rector St Joseph’s Seminary and many priests were present at the occasion.
