Mangaluru, Jan 1: The first 'Karavali Gourava Award' was conferred on Sadananda Suvarna. The 84-year-old veteran theatre artist, theatre director, film producer and director was conferred with the award at a function held at the Karavali Utsav grounds on December 31 in the city.
The 'Karavali Gourava Award' was conferred on Sadananda Suvarna by District-In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai.
Speaking after recieving the award, Sadananda Suvarna expressed his gratitute to the district administration, " I have recieved many awards but this award means a lot for me, as I recived it in my birthplace. I did not work for money, I just contributed to the theatre with passion, I get great satisfaction when I donate to the poor after seeing the smile on their face. The support of the people is a tonic of health for me to stay healthy at this age. I thank all those who chose me for the award."
The award was conferred in recognition of his contribution to the drama and film industry in the country. He entered the film world in 1975. Suvarna’s film ‘Ghatashradha’, directed by Girish Kasaravalli, won the Swarna Kamal award.
He has written several Kannada dramas like ‘Abaagini’, ‘Vishamagalige’, ‘Kula Gaurava’, ‘Kadavane Kalla’, ‘Kannu Thereithu’, ‘Bagna Mandira’, ‘Halladinda Hadige’, ‘Roopadarshana’, ‘Gudeda Bootha’, ‘Kurudana Sangeetha’, ‘Dharmachakra’, ‘Rajaputha Pavada’, and ‘Akasmika’.
Sadananda Suvarna's produced and directed play, a court-based trilogy ‘Court Trivali’, has won wide appreciation across the state.
He also secured awards like ‘Ranna Award 2002’, seven state-level awards for theatre play ‘Court Marshal’, Rajostava Award from Karnataka state in 2002, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Award Honorary Award-2001, Karnataka Shri Award-2003, Maharashtra Shrestha Kannadiga Award-2004, Karanth Puraskar-2009, Alva’s Nudisiri Award-2008, and Sadhana Award-2010.
Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, committee head writer Vivek Rai and others were present at the occasion.
