Bengaluru, Dec 28: Thieves, by putting to use a familiar plan, diverted attention of the driver of a bank's cash van, and took away a bag having currency notes worth Rs 11 lac in it. The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday December 27 at K H Road in Shantinagar here near the ATM of Karnataka Bank Ltd.
It is said that the designated personnel had brought cash in a Tata Sumo vehicle for feeding various ATMs. At around 6.30 pm, two persons entered the ATM for depositing cash, while the gunman stood guard outside the ATM. Some people spread a few ten rupee currency notes near the cash van. They drew the attention of the driver, towards these notes, told him they suspected them to be belonging to him, and asked him to collect them. As soon as the driver got busy with collecting these notes, the miscreants entered the van, took a bag containing Rs 11 lac, and fled from the scene, as per a complaint filed in police station.
Closed circuit television cameras installed at the ATM and nearby buildings have caught the proceedings on camera. The policemen, who have verified these footage, claim to have got clues about the persons involved with the crime. Senior police officers have expressed confidence of arresting the concerned immediately.
Some locals said that three persons, who had arrived at the spot by an auto rickshaw, were found loitering around suspiciously. They suspect involvement of these persons in this theft. The policemen in the meanwhile, have subjected the vehicle driver and gunman to intensive interrogation.
Wilson Garden police, who have registered the case and begun investigation, said that the gang of thieves popularly known as 'Irani Gang' normally puts to use this modus operandi. They added that they will also look into the possibility of this gang being involved with this theft.
