Pune, Dec 22 (IANS): Siddharth Sable and Gargi Pawar made a quick work of their respective opponents to win the boys' and girls’ titles in the Solaris Club All-India Ranking (Under-14) Championship Series tennis tournament at the Mayur Colony Solaris Club here Monday.
Third seed Sable defeated Archit Sinha 6-2, 6-4 while Gargi registered a facile 6-3, 6-1 win over Aishwarya Andalkar to earn all important 15 All India Tennis Association (AITA) rankings points. The runners-up settled for 10 points.
There was a lot of trading in the first set as the 13-year-old Siddharth broke Archit in the fourth, sixth and eighth games, while Archit broke Siddharth in the third game to raise some hopes before losing the grip in the first set.
Siddharth again broke Archit in the first, third and ninth games in the second set to keep up the pressure. Archit too was aggressive, though in patches, breaking Siddharth in the sixth and eighth games.
Siddharth was 4-0 up before Archit levelled the scores. But the he broke Archit in the 10th game to win the match and his maiden U-14 title.
The 11-year-old Pune girl Gargi too won her maiden title. She gave no room to Aishwarya to make rallies and blasted several winners regularly.
