Malaysian hurdle for Bengaluru FC in AFC Champions League

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 11 (IANS): I-League champions Bengaluru FC were drawn against Malaysia Super League winners Johor Darul Ta’zim FC in the first round of the preliminary stage of the football AFC Champions League Thursday.

The Indian side will travel to Malaysia to take part in the match, scheduled for Feb 4, 2015.

Ashley Westwood’s team will have to play and win two preliminary games and one play-off game before making it to the group stages of the Champions League.

They are scheduled to take on Thailand's Bangkok Glass in the second round (Feb 10) and Chinese Super League runners-up, Beijing Guoan in the play-off tie (Feb 17).

Westwood said the game would be a great test to see how his boys perform on the Asian stage.

“Malaysia will provide us with a tough test to see if we progress to the next preliminary round. There is no need to look any further at this stage as we have to take each game as it comes,” Westwood said in a release Thursday.
