Boxer Sarita accepts her Asiad bronze medal

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS): Boxer Sarita Devi Wednesday received her 2014 Asian Games bronze medal, which she had refused to accept, from the Indian Olympic Association.

Sarita broke down on the podium during the medal ceremony and refused to receive her medal following a controversial semi-final defeat in the lightweight (57-60kg) category.

She accepted the medal but handed it to South Korean silver medalist Ji Na Park, who had defeated Sarita in a disputed bout.

Sarita's stance led the International Boxing Association (AIBA) to provisionally suspend the boxer. However the AIBA is yet to take a final call on the quantum of the punishment.
