Udupi, Dec 6: Service and cultural committee of Udayavar friends circle organized ‘UFC Makkala Habbha-2014’ a district level group dance competition for primary and high school students on account of children’s day, at Vitobha Rukumae Narayanaguru Mandira, Udayavar on November 22.
On the occasion, a procession was held from Udayar junction to the Mandir with chief guests and students of various schools with colourful balloons. The procession was also accompanied by the school bands from various schools.
Junior Shankar, famous magician of Gili Gili magic inaugurated the programme. After inaugurating the programme, he said that his first performance of magic show was on Children’s day.
He further said, “We should learn to accept our defeat along with victory. Defeat helps us to know about our mistakes and improve in life. People think that western dances are vulgar in nature, but all forms of dance are good”.
Member of Rajya Sabha and the president of the programme, Oscar Fernandez said, “Indian children are very intelligent when compared to other countries. If we let our children pursue their goals, India will surely improve”.
UFC president Ramesh Kumar welcomed the gathering. Riyaz Palli conveyed the vote of thanks. Abidh Ali compered the programme.
The judges for the event were Ganesh Brahamavar, Chinnmay and Swathi.
In all, 36 teams participated in the programme from Udupi district.
Following were the winners of the group dance competition in Primary level:
First prize – Bhoomika & team, Hindhu Higher primary School, Melpete Udayavara, Second prize – Nisha & team, Kanthavar Aided Higher Primary school, Karkala, Third Prize – Shamina & team, St Francis Xavier Higher primary School, Udayavar.
Following were the winners of group dance competition in High school level:
First prize – Shri Kantheshwara high school, Karkala, Second Prize – Nandhaksha & team, Gurukripa Central School, Bollettu, Karkala, Third prize – Joythi & team, Morarji Desai Residential School, Alevoor.
The winners were awarded Rs 5000, 3000, & 2000 along with trophy and certificate.
UR Sabhapati former MLA Udupi, Taluk panchayat member Girish Kumar, Chandravathi Bandary, Sharath Kumar, Nagesh Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
The valedictory ceremony was held in the presence of district in charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake. The committee members distributed the prizes for winners.
