Karnataka to seek SC nod for auctioning 14 'C' category mines

Kalaburagi, Nov 28: The first cabinet meeting of the Congress government headed by chief minister Siddaramaiah in this city, which was held on Friday, has decided to seek the approval of the Supreme Court through the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) to auction 15 "C" category mines in Ballari, Chitradurga and Tumakuru districts.

The CEC constituted by the apex court, which recently visited Bengaluru, conducted a survey and had given various suggestions to the Government.

In its report submitted to the Supreme Court, the CEC had identified 51 mines with maximum illegalities in three districts.

The State Government would auction six mines between December 2014 and January 2015 subject to the approval of the Supreme Court.

The remaining nine mines would be taken up for auction during April-May 2015.

The Siddaramaiahcaabinet has decided take up restoration of ecology/environment in Ballari, Chitradurga and Tumakuru districts which have been affected due to rampant illegal mining.

The Stare Cabinet has also approved several programmes and projects to be taken up in the Gulbarga division of the State.


Other decisions taken at the Kalabauragi cabinet meeting:

- Rs 400 crore sanctioned to Hyderabad-Karnataka Region Development Board
- All vacancies in the Hyderabad-Karnatakaregion to be filled by June 215
- Approval for Rs 696.50 lakh to build a taluk hospital in Sedam
- Approval for Rs 7.04 croreGovt Dental College and Research Institute, Ballari
- Approval for Rs 52 crore for construction of a bridge across Bheema river in Jewargitaluk
- Approval for R. 19.50 crore housing layouts for Group B, C and D staff of Yadgir City
- Allotment of 30.38 acres for Government Medical College at Mudnala Village in Yadgir
- Approval for Rs 7.05 crore for construction of a regional building of Abdul Nazir Sab Institute of Rural Development in Kalaburagi
- Approval for Rs 154.83 cr for construction of Morarji Desai and Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential Schools
- Approval of Rs 6.50 cr for building Dr B R AmedkarBhavan on Kalaburagi-Sedam Road
- Free housing site costing Rs 11.50 lakh to the family of deceased Police Sub-Inspector Mallikarjun Bande.
