Udupi, Nov 27: The traditional Fruit Mixing ceremony was celebrated on November 26,2014 at Hotel Fortune Inn Valley View, Manipal.
The colorful fruit mixing ceremony is an age old ceremony practiced in traditional Christian households. Origin of the cake-mixing ceremony dates back to the 17th century in Europe. It marks arrival of the harvest season. During this time lots of fruits and nuts were harvested and prepared to go into the making of the traditional plum cake.
The mix was saved up for the next harvest, with the hope that the coming year would bring fruitful year. The sugar content of the liquor and fruit juices help preserve ingredients. For Christmassy weather, the plum cake is a perfect energy food.
Method: All the cut dry fruits should be mixed really well with the spices for absorbing the flavor. Alcohol helps to retaining the flavor and act as preservative. Ingredient mixed with correct proportion is key to perfect baking. With proper refrigeration, the cake will have a longer life.
The fine flavour fills the Christmas with delectable sweetness. The same is now practiced in hotels with much pomp and fare, and it is a great time for the staff and customers to bond.
The cake was designed by the Rajiv Kumar Bali, executive chef.
Dr Vinod Bhatt, Pro Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, Parvathi Bhat, Dean of KMC Hpspital, Parvadha Vardini, Damodar Kamat, Udaya Sharma and other institution heads are present on the auspicious occasion.
