Accra, Nov 20 (IANS): Ghana defeated Togo 3-1 at the Tamale Sports Stadium to secure a place at next year's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Equatorial Guinea Jan 17-Feb 8.
Striker Majeed Waris opened the account Wednesday for Ghana in the 24th minute before Mubarak Wakaso doubled the lead with a goal from 35 yards four minutes later, reports Xinhua.
Togolese forward Floyd Ayite pulled one back few minutes into the second half.
But stand-in skipper Agyemang Badu's restored the Black Stars' two-goal lead in the 69th minute.
Ghana were without captain Asamoah Gyan and mid-fielders Kwadwo Asamoah and Andre Ayew but still managed to come out on top. The win ensured Ghana finished on top of Group E with 11 points from six matches.
