Mumbai, Nov 6: After Hollywood star Brad Pitt, it is Bollywood’s sexy hunk John Abraham who has got his hands messy to build houses for the poor in Lonavala, about 100 kms away from Mumbai.
John joined thousands of other volunteers from around the world to lend a helping hand in building houses as a part of Habitat for Humanity’s ‘indiaBUILDS’ campaign in joint effort with The 23rd Annual Jimmy Carter Work Project, which is spearheaded by the former US President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter.
Dressed in a white T-shirt, jeans and wearing goggles, John worked with a team of volunteers from the UK and Canada. They worked on the gabled roof of one of the houses. John also carried mortar and cement tiles.
“There can be few things more moving than to work alongside those who are helping themselves to provide a better life for their families,” a press release by Habitat for Humanity India (HHI) quotes John as saying.
John is already supporting HHI’s ‘indiaBUILDS’ campaign through his program John's Brigade, which is aimed at encouraging young Indians and NRI’s to chip in their bit for the social cause.
As a volunteer himself, John helped in building two homes in Lonavala on Thursday.
John is so spurred after his Lonavala experience that he is thinking of buying a piece of land and build a house himself.
John says he is “deeply inspired” after his meeting with Mr. Jimmy Carter, who is indefatigable in his efforts for the poor even at the age of ninety.
