B-Town welcomes SC ruling on women make-up artists

Mumbai, Nov 10 (IANS): Actors and filmmakers from the Hindi film industry have whole-heartedly welcomed the Supreme Court ruling Monday allowing women make-up artists and hairdressers to finally become members of professional associations.

This provision prohibited women from becoming make-up artists and hairdressers in the film industry all these years, and celebrities like Madhur Bhandarkar and Farhan Akhtar have lauded the judgment even as they wondered why the bar against women existed at all.

Here's how some celebrities reacted on Twitter:

Madhur Bhandarkar: Welcome judgment by Hon. Supreme Court allowing women make-up artistes in film fraternity. The discrimination was unhealthy & uncalled for.

Farhan Akhtar: The Supreme Court ruling on ending the bias against women becoming members of the Cine Make-up Artist Association is most welcome.

Aftab Shivdasani: Great judgment by the honourable supreme court to allow female make up artists to work in bollywood. Some progress towards gender equality!

Nikhil Advani: SC puts an end to an archaic law banning women make up artists from working in the film industry. What were we ever thinking?

Atul Kasbekar: While the SC ruling on women allowed 2b makeup artists is most welcome, fact that this discrimination existed in the first place is hideous

Ashvini Yardi: Kudos to Charu Khurana for challenging and getting the ban lifted on female make-up artists in Bollywood. #womenpower
