JEALOUSY DROVE HIM TO MURDER
Sharjah - Nov. 06:A ‘controlling and possessive’ husband planned his suicide and the murder of his wife and daughter in intricate detail over fears his wife was having an affair, suicide notes have revealed. Police last night said Indian Kumar Acharya Vasudevan, 33, strangled his wife Lynette, 32, and smothered their daughter with a pillow because he wanted to ‘unite with his beloved wife under the earth’ according to three letters he left.
The notes showed that Kumar had planned the murders, and his suicide, in detail, telling relatives precisely what assets he had, what he owed, and how to dispose of all of his possessions from their flat in Sharjah after his death.
Brigadier Saleh Ali Al Mutawa, head of Sharjah Police, said Kumar wrote in one letter addressed to police that he had “discovered his wife’s betrayal and that despite her promises to end the affair, she called her lover whenever he travelled out of town.” However, there was no proof that Lynette was having an affair. And yesterday a British friend and former colleague of Lynette, who worked with her for three years both in India and Abu Dhabi, said Kumar was ‘incredibly jealous, possessive and controlling.’
Brigadier Al Mutawa said Kumar also asked that no action be taken against the man he accused of having an affair with his wife because “he forgave him already.” In another letter to his parents, Kumar asked for their forgiveness while in third letter to his brother, he asked that his debts be paid, “by selling flat furniture and by money he is owed by his employer (Baskin Robbins.) He even listed the names of people he owed and how much in the letter,” Brigadier Al Mutawa said.
Brigadier Al Mutawa said Lynette could have been the innocent victim of an obsessively jealous husband. “Just because he accused her of having an affair doesn’t mean she did. It could have been all in his head. He may have had mental issues after all a healthy man in that situation would have divorced his wife not killed her along with his child,” he added. Police had never received any complaints of domestic abuse from Lynette who worked as a company receptionist.
Meanwhile, the former colleague of Lynette revealed: “It was bad enough in India where she was at least surrounded by members of her family. But after they moved to Abu Dhabi it got worse as she was alone with him. He was incredibly jealous, possessive and controlling. “He always wanted to know who she had spoken to, where she had been and where she was going. Every day he dropped her off at work and every night he was there to collect her. She couldn’t do a thing without him knowing about it. Her death is shocking, but not really surprising.”
