Mangaluru: Alangar Church organizes Swachchata Andolan

Mangaluru, Nov 4: Swachchata Andolan was organized by Alangar Church and St Thomas educational institutions in association with Lions Club, Alangar, Catholic Sabha, and Indian Catholic Youth Movement  on Saturday November 1.

Supriya D Shetty, municipal president, hoisted the Kannada Flag and inaugurated the programme. "Clean India is our first responsibility," was the slogan adopted for the occasion.

Parish priest and correspondent, Fr Basil Vas, presided over the programme. He said that the dream of realizing the concept of Clean India is possible only when every citizen becomes aware of his responsibilities towards maintaining hygiene and cleanliness  around him.

Lions Club president, Manohar Cutinha, Jerald Lobo, vice president of parish council, Santhosh Rodrigues, secretary of parish council, P K Thomas, member of town municipality and president of Catholic Sabha, Anish D'Souza, panchayat member and president of ICYM, Sr Felicita, headmistress of St Thomas English Medium School, Sr Helen Goveas, headmaster of Kannada Medium School, parishioners, parents, staff and the students were present.

They went in four groups and collected more than 25 bags of waste material from the streets.
