Udupi, Nov 2 : ‘It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins’- 2 Maccabees 12:46. The feast of All Souls Day was celebrated at St John the Evangelist Church, Pangla shankerpura on the 2nd of November, 2014. The Holy Mother Church has set aside this day to remind us of the value in recalling our dead departed. The day began with the Eucharistic Celebration at 7:00 am. The Parish Priest of the Church, Rev Fr Leslie D’Souza was the main celebrant and Fr Lawrence D’Souza concelebrated the Mass. A brief reflection was given by Fr Leslie about the importance of praying for the dead. He also stressed the need to remember the souls of our dear family members and pray for them.
After the Mass the parishioners gathered near the Church Cemetery to recall and pray for the souls of their beloved ones. The family members stood beside the tombs of their dear ones and offered their prayers. The newly erected statues depicting the Calvary Scene was blessed and inaugurated by Fr Lawrence D’Souza. The cemetery is a holy place where the faithful people are laid to rest and therefore the Holy Church regards it as our prime duty to pray for the departed souls.
